Public funding made available for the implementation of energy-efficiency measures in the UK rose from €330 million to €440 million (£260 million to £350 million) between 2012 and 2014, according to research from leading energy consultancy Ecofys.

The study found that the majority of funding that yielded this 35 per cent rise was provided under Climate Change Agreements, while other sources included the Green Deal and RE:FIT programme.

Following publication of the figures, the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ECEEE) expressed concerns that “many investments which would make economic sense are still not realised” and that more must be done to “ensure that the legislative framework encourages these opportunities.”
In short, the message is that, while such an increase in funding for energy-efficiency measures is positive, there is still great potential for increasing energy efficiency.
